DAYCARE Practices

This presentation explores the relational foundations of high-quality school-age daycare.

The content is divided into four sections:

  1. Making sense of the child

  2. The daycare context

  3. The adult response

  4. The key elements to consider

Participants will examine how attachment, belonging and mattering, preventative and intentional practices, positive peer relationships, teamwork, and meaningful family partnerships contribute to children’s well-being and development.

Particular attention will be given to the role of the adult—their presence, responses, and capacity to provide co-regulation—in helping children navigate emotions, relationships, and challenging moments.

Through practical strategies and reflection, educators will consider how everyday interactions can create daycare environments where children feel safe, connected, supported, and valued.
