Practices for the RESOURCE TEACHER
This presentation explores the role of resource teachers in creating the conditions that help students feel safe, regulated, engaged, and ready to learn.
The content is divided into four sections:
-
The role of the Resource Teacher and the adult posture
-
Tier 1 universal practices
-
Tier 2 targeted practices
-
Tier 3 individualized practices
Grounded in the principles of adult posture, co-regulation, and a strengths-based, neurodevelopmental lens, participants will examine how shifting from a focus on student behaviour to a broader consideration of the student, the task, the environment, and adult responses can lead to more effective and sustainable support.
Within a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS), the presentation examines how the resource teacher’s role evolves across Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3—from consultant and capacity builder, to collaborative problem solver, to team partner and coordinator.
Throughout the presentation, emphasis is placed on collaboration, observation, attunement, co-regulation, and building the capacity of the adults and environments surrounding the student. The goal is not simply to provide more support, but to create coordinated, responsive, and sustainable conditions that promote increasing student participation, belonging, learning, and growth.
